The wines of the Loire Valley were built along the water, at the edge of the longest and wildest river in France. From Nantes to Clermont-Ferrand, a multitude of terroirs with sometimes very different characteristics have as a link the Loire, which connects them one by one, in a landscape partly classified by UNESCO as world heritage of humanity . The Loire Valley is the third vineyard in France, after Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley. The vineyards spread over 15 departments: the Loire, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Nièvre, Cher, Indre, Indre et Loire, Loir et Cher, Loiret, Loire Atlantique , The Maine et Loire, the Sarthe, the Vendée, the Deux-Sèvres and the Vienne. It produces 68 appellations, and asserts itself as the leading French producer of white wines of appellation;
The wines of the kings
The Loire Valley is above all the fabulous castles that dot the banks! The kings, who loved so much this region, have largely contributed to the growth of its wines. If the vineyard was born in Roman times, it really took off in the Middle Ages with the abbeys (Marmoutier, Fontevraud). Commercial navigation, very strong on the Loire, contributed greatly to the development of the wines of the Loire Valley, which were found at the table of the kings of France and England. In red, white or rosé, Loire wines have retained all their nobility. They are appreciated for their aerial and fruity character, and their wide palette of flavors.
