At the origin of this estate, there is an Irishman, Bernard Phelan, friend of Hugh Barton who is at the origin of Léoville Barton. Bernard Phelan begins by marrying the daughter of a merchant of the Bordeaux place before acquiring 2 estates in the early 19th century, from which will come the Château Phélan-Ségur. In the middle of the century, they built a building that mixes dwellings and cellars, thus going against the usages. Today, the domaine is owned by Xavier Gardinier who runs it with his sons Thierry, Stéphane and Laurent.


The vineyard, which is managed according to the principles of sustainable management, covers nearly 70 hectares and is dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little Cabernet Franc and even less verdot.



In the winery, you will find stainless steel and oak, new as old, to adapt to vintages and different wines. Michel Rolland, who is no longer present, advises the Château Phélan-Ségur.
